  • The most famous, and notorious, is Krazy Kat whose running gag was having Ignatz the Mouse literally throw a brick at the head of the title character. In nearly every episode.
  • On one occasion, Garfield kicks Odie into next week. The following Monday, Odie falls onto him.
  • In a FoxTrot story arc- in which Summer camp pal Phoebe and her brother Eugene revisit the strip- Phoebe uses this trope in lieu of explanation for how she knew it had been her brother who had stolen their camp journal: "Introduced, and then forgotten! How could we have missed that?!"
  • In For Better or For Worse, a doll is flushed down the toilet. Years later; literally years later, it's pulled out of the pipes.
  • Mark Leiknes' Cow And Boy has enough running brick jokes for a whole wall. Casual readers must be bewildered by the cat-copters, bazooka-toting orcas, and cardboard cutout stand-ins of the boy.
