A news show made up of one or more documentaries, each longer than a news segment on the nightly news. Frequently showcases investigative journalism. Also known as "newsmagazines" because of the long format of their stories.
Not to be confused with [[CBC]] Television's early-90's experiment of running ''The National'' and ''The Journal'' back-to-back at 9 p.m., although ''The Journal'' was a documentary program.
Being such an iconic format, it has naturally been subjected several times to [[Parody]] and [[Satire]]. The most notable of these are:
* ''[[Brass Eye]]''
* ''[[Frontline]]''
* ''FYI'', the [[Show Within a Show]] from ''[[Murphy Brown]]''.
