Death Wish/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Awesome Music: The soundtracks for 2 and 3. It is to be expected when you have Jimmy Page being the composer.
  • Cult Classic: Death Wish 3.
  • Misaimed Fandom: Despite showing the faults of Vigilantism. Specifically, the idea that you could get hurt when going after criminals, as shown when Paul Kersey got injured twice on two occasions; fans seem to mistake this as a pro-viglante movie. Made worse when Bernard Goetz killed 3 muggers on a subway in a similar fashion as the scene where Kersey kills them. Prompting Charles Bronson himself to do a public service announcement against vigilantism. The movie also seems to draw in conservative fans despite the fact that it was specifically stated that Paul Kersey is and always will be a liberal. A conscious choice on both the Author and The Director, in an effort to show that anyone could suffer the same situation Kersey suffered. The movie even goes out of it's way to deconstruct both political parties. Ames Jainchill comes across as a straw conservative. Preaching about the value of Guns and initially assuming Paul never used a gun due to his background as both a Liberal and a Conscientious Objector in the Korean War. However upon seeing how handy Kersey is with a gun, not only is he impressed, but he befriends him right away. Not even teasing him when Kersey tells his story on why he never used guns. They part ways in Tuscon as friends and Ames even offers a welcome back should Paul want to leave New York. As a going away present, Ames is the one who gives Paul the gun he uses to kill muggers.
  • Narm: So many moments in 3.
  • Sequelitis
  • So Bad It's Good: Death Wish 3.
  • Unfortunate Implications: Kersey seems to kill mostly black men but first movie itself seems to lampshade this.

"What do you want, racial equality among muggers?"
