Making changes to an existing media work. Responsible for many kinds of Derivative Works:
Patching
- Modifying one or more of the files of a video game.
- Types include Fan Translation and Game Mod.
Redubbing
- Replacing the voice track on a video.
- Types include Gag Dub, The Abridged Series, and Hong Kong Dub.
Remixing
- Making a meaningfully new work using pieces of an old one.
- Comes from mixing the individual tracks of a musical recording together again in a new way, such as to make a dance mix of a pop song.
- Types include Fan Vid, Machinima, Remix Comic, and, less seriously, YouTube Poop.
Relettering
- Replacing the lettering on Sequential Art.
- Types include Remix Comic and Scanlation.
Resubbing
Translating
- Converting meanings from one language to another.
- Types include Fan Sub, Fan Translation, and Scanlation.
