In and Out (French: L'un dans l'autre) is a 2017 French-Belgian comedy directed by Bruno Chiche.
The story follows two couples who are friends with each other. Pierre, who is married to Aimée, has an affair with Pénélope, who is engaged to Eric. After Pierre and Pénélope magically switch bodies, they try to secretly live as each other until they can figure out how to switch back.
Tropes used in In and Out (2017 film) include:
- Afraid of Blood: Pierre faints every time he sees blood. After he sees his menstrual blood in Pénélope's body, he's hospitalized and describes his trauma to the doctor.
- Caught with Your Pants Down: Pénélope (in Pierre's body) is masturbating in the bathroom when Pierre's wife catches her and offers help.
- Femininity Failure: Pierre struggles to behave femininely while in Pénélope's body more than Pénélope does acting like a man in his body.
- At the psychologist's office, Pierre's adoption interview is a failure because he speaks in an aggressive manner instead of the docile, motherly way expected of him.
- Throughout the film, Pierre uses the grammatical masculine gender when referring to himself in Pénélope's body.
- Freaky Friday Flip: Pierre and Pénélope are secretly lovers who magically swap bodies after having sex. They try to act like each other while hiding their relationship.
- Gender Bender: Pierre is a married man with children who swaps bodies with Pénélope, the fiancée of his employee who's trying to adopt a child.
- The Immodest Orgasm: Pénélope uses a webcam in Pierre's office to tell Pierre how Pierre can masturbate in her body. Pierre screams loudly when he finishes, and it can be heard by Pierre's secretary in the next room.
- It Doesn't Mean Anything: Eric reveals publicly that he and Pierre had cheated on their partners with each other, and Pierre tries to convince everyone that it means nothing. Eric was actually with his fiancée Pénélope in Pierre's body, but only Pierre and Pénélope know that.
- The Loins Sleep Tonight: Since Pierre and Pénélope swapped bodies after having sex, they try having sex to swap again. Pénélope is unable to get an erection since she's not sexually attracted to her own body.
- Lost in Translation: In several scenes, Pierre and Pénélope use the wrong gender when in each other's bodies, which is noticed by other characters. Subtitles for some languages, like English, don't capture this because they don't have this gender agreement.
- Man, I Feel Like a Woman: Pierre gropes his new breasts as soon as he looks in the mirror and sees that he's in Pénélope's body.
