James Mallahan Cain (1892-1977) was an American author. Although his career spanned five decades from the 1930s to the 1970s, he's mainly famous for the crime novels he wrote in the '30s and '40s.
Works written by James M. Cain include:
- The Postman Always Rings Twice (1934)
- Double Indemnity (1936 as a serial, 1943 as a novel)
- Mildred Pierce (1941)
