Klonoa/Trivia

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Acclaimed Flop: Despite the franchise being absolutely loved by nearly everyone who plays it and all around getting great reviews, the games have never really managed to break out of their Cult Classic status.
  • Colbert Bump: While still not as well-known as Pac-Man or Mario, Klonoa has gained a bit more popularity thanks to the internet and word of mouth over the years. Which may or may not have also inspired the creation of the comic and the upcoming film.
  • Hey, It's That Voice!: It's hard not to imagine Klonoa yelling "DE ARIMASU!!!"
  • No Export for You: Moonlight Museum didn't make it out of Japan due to the WonderSwan not catching on; Beach Volleyball didn't get to North America because Sony was trying to phase out the PS 1 by 2002. Namco subsequently decided that North America hated Klonoa for some reason and refused to localize any other games until 2005.
  • The Other Darrin: Nearly all of the Japanese voice actors were replaced for the Wii remake of Door to Phantomile, with Kumiko Watanabe being the only exception.
  • Promoted Fanboy:
    • Ash Paulsen of Game Xplain stated that he is a big fan of the series, then in January 2017, he landed the Associate Producer role in the upcoming animated film.
    • The webcomic's writer Jim Zub was also stated to be a huge fan of the series.
  • Screwed by the Network: Namco somehow expected the series to sell despite having almost no advertising. Of course, when it didn't sell because people didn't know about it, the franchise died.
