Little Witch Academia (2017 series)/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

These things about Little Witch Academia are subjective - not everyone will agree with all of them.

  • Adaptation Displacement: You're probably not aware that Little Witch Academia started life as a short film. This series--an adaptation of the original film--is what comes to most peoples' minds when they think of Little Witch Academia.
  • Awesome Music: Woodward and Chariot's themes.
  • Growing the Beard: The new opening in episode 14 signals the acceleration of the main story. The series moves from mainly episodic goofy magic adventures to having a serious narrative with the occasional fun adventure. The antagonist of the whole series is introduced in the episode. A major reveal happens in the next episode. Characters such as Diana gets development and becomes a much more complex character, and Akko learns to use some magic.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Akko has more than her fair share:
    • Her exchange at the end of episode 20, where she managed to squeeze some emotions out of the usually stoic Diana.

Diana: Akko.
Diana: I appreciate everything you've done for me.
Akko: You what!?
Akko: Say it again, come on Diana!
Diana: Don't push it.
Akko: I couldn't hear it with all the wind. One more time!
Diana: No.
Akko: Please, for me.
Diana: Absolutely not.
Akko: You don't have to be embarrassed.
Diana: Do you want to walk?

    • She shares quite a bit with Professor Ursula, with scenes where Professor Ursula tries her hardest to help Akko, cheering her on.
  • Idiot Plot: Many episodes have a premise that goes something like this:
Hey Akko, do not do this one thing!
Akko: Does that one thing anyway. The entire episode is spent dealing with the consequences.
  • Memetic Mutation: "Akko opens the wrong door". See the original scene here.
  • Narm Charm: If you ask someone who has never seen anime in their entire life to envision what an anime would be like, the Little Witch Academia finale is probably what comes to their mind. There's so enough happening to ruin your immersion in the series. It contains moments which some people will consider very cheesy, like Diana and Akko calling their attacks next to each other. That's the charm; it is so ridiculously over the top with so much action you have no choice but to follow along and laugh.
  • Tastes Like Diabetes: The ending is so sweet and over the top you have no choice to be dragged along and just enjoy everything that's happening. There's enough sugar there to kill a man.
