Peter Rabbit (film)/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Audience-Alienating Premise: The film just discards elements that made the original Beatrix Potter tales so beloved in favor of gross-out Shrek-tier comedy and pop culture references. Also, it's from the same studio which thinks that a movie about emoji was a really good idea doesn't help at all.
  • Base Breaking Character: Peter Rabbit's voice actor, James Corden. Though it's agree that the other characters outshine him, the audience are split in three camps: Surprisingly decent, a somewhat minor inconvenience to the film, or just ruins it.
  • Designated Villain: Thomas McGregor, all he just wants is to protect the garden from the selfish wildlife who had just killed the previous homeowner.
  • Fandom Rivalry: The movie has a small fandom and their rivalry is with the fans of the Paddington Bear movies. Both are film adaptions of beloved British children's books, which stars talking animals, and with Live Action/CGI makings. The Paddington movies are praised for being faithful to the books and are sincere to watch. Whereas Peter Rabbit, depending on who you talk to is reviled for huge changes.
    • There's a minor one with the fans of the Peter Rabbit CGI Nick Jr. series. Despite its creative changes, the cartoon series is still closer to the tone and spirit of the books.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Apparently, Rey and General Hux are duking it out.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: A portion of the audience, including Star Wars fans, are just there because both Daisy and Domhnall are on it (Including those that are hate watching the film).
  • Memetic Mutation: Since the film's main villain is Old McGregor's nephew, Thomas McGregor, is portrayed by Domhnall Gleeson sparks a ton of jokes that the movie is mainly General Hux fighting rabbits and other woodland creatures. It's not helping matters that Dom uses the same posh accent that he uses for Hux.
  • Cerebus Syndrome: The books' lighthearted tone is replaced by something that is quite dark (like Peter murdering Old McGregor, the death of the Rabbits' parents, and such).
  • Rooting for the Empire: Some fans ended up rooting for Thomas, instead of Peter Rabbit and his woodland friends, since the young McGregor is very sympathetic with his goals and the animals are mean to him and tried to kill him.
