A news show made up of one or more documentaries, each longer than a news segment on the nightly news. Frequently showcases investigative journalism. Also known as "newsmagazines" because of the long format of their stories.

Not to be confused with CBC Television's early-90's experiment of running The National and The Journal back-to-back at 9 p.m., although The Journal was a documentary program.
