Rose Red/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Angst? What Angst?: Even taking the memorial service at the end into account, Steve doesn't seem to show much remorse over the death of Joyce. Guess he was only in it for the sex?
    • Her descent into Ax Crazy probably made it easier to get over her. Besides, there are some very definite hints that she was only in it for his connection to Rose Red.
  • Complete Monster: John Rimbauer. The house itself could also qualify if you believe it's sentient.
  • Crowning Moment of Funny: When Mrs. Waterman jumps on Cathy and starts choking her, demanding to know where Emery is, Nick comes up to the both of them with a flashlight and we get this:

Nick: (unfazed) Beg your pardon, but would you mind awfully letting her go?

    • Also, Emery's response when the ghoul-versions of Deana and Pam try to seduce him.

Emery: I'm hard up, but I'm not quite that desperate.

  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Nick
  • Misblamed: Emery is listed as The Scrappy, but be honest, if you were put in the same exact position he was put in, you'd probably freak out the same way if not worse.
  • Narm: "SAY CHEESE!"
  • Nightmare Fuel
    • The scariest shot in the movie is probably Steve looking out the kitchen window and just missing Sukeena looking at him from the flowers. Or more correctly, the extreme close-up of her undead face snarling/smiling evilly directly afterward.
  • Special Effects Failure: John Rimbauer's fall, the ghost in the fire, and the insects.
  • Straw Man Has a Point: If the group had knocked Annie out as Emery suggested, they might have been able to escape before the house took Nick and Mrs. Waterman.
