• Cult Classic: The film has gotten a good following for fans of early 2000s culture.
• Director Displacement: Many people thought that this and its sequel were directed by James Gunn (the films' writer) rather than Raja Gosnell.
• Ensemble Darkhorse:
  • Zarkos is a well-received villain for his muscular appearance and personality. Many fans go far to say his scenes with Daphne, including when he first captured her and the backbreaker during their final fight, were some of the best scenes in the movie.
  • Melvin Doo is a great minor character for a great Brick Joke.
• First Installment Wins: Some fans prefer this over Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed because of the more self-aware tone.
• It's the Same, Now It Sucks: Fans of Scooby-Doo in Zombie Island complained that some of the plot was too familiar. For example, there are living monsters and most of the plot is set on an island.
• One-Scene Wonder: The Luna Ghost for being quite frightening. It went to the point of having him as a cameo in the first episode of Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated.
• Signature Scene: The movie is probably best known for the scene with Shaggy and Scooby having a burping and farting contest.
• So Bad It's Good: What many fans think of the film. On the other hand...
• So Okay It's Average: Most members of the fanbase who don't see it as a bad movie see it as this.
• Special Effects Failure: The CGI for Scooby, Scrappy and the monsters isn't that good; they look like they came from a PlayStation 2 game.
• Take That Scrappy: Happens to the Trope Namer himself in a flashback, when the rest of the gang kicks him out of the Mystery Machine. It later happens again when Scrappy is revealed to be the villain and subsequently defeated, with Scooby punching him!
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Fans would be less disappointed if the Luna Ghost had been the main villain instead of just appearing in the beginning.
• Took the Bad Film Seriously: Matthew Lillard did such a great job playing Shaggy that Casey Kassem picked Lillard as the official Shaggy voice actor.
• Uncanny Valley:
  • Scrappy's Mondavarious disguise. He looks a little too realistic for a robot.
  • Mary Jane's face after she was whacked by a tree.
• Uncertain Audience: The film can't decide if it's for adults or kids.
• Values Dissonance: Daphne complained about getting groped by the Luna Ghost but the rest of the crew didn't help her because of this. This was averted in the book, where she complained about his bad breath.
• Vindicated by History: Sort of... While most Scooby-Doo fans don't consider it a masterpiece, the film has gotten a dedicated fanbase over the years, some of it ironic, some of it genuine.
• Visual Effects of Awesome: The Luna Ghost's glow and the somewhat removed cleavage are the only good visual effects on the film.
• What Do You Mean It's for Kids?: James Gunn revealed in 2017 that there was an R-rated cut, which explained why there was plenty of adult humor, mild cursing, cleavage and marjiuana references in the final film.
