To many, this film is a very touching reflection upon the self-sacrifices of a traumatized man. For many others, this film is a pretentious plod-fest that glorifies suicide.
This film contains examples of:
- Accidental Aesop: It's most likely unintentional, but the cause of the car crash was Tim checking his cell phone while driving. Talk about an unfair consequence.
- Anvilicious:
- The two "good" people focused on in the film are vegetarian.
- Critical Research Failure: Death by jellyfish would result in your organs being totally unsuitable for transplantation. Also, you can't choose whom your organs will go to.
- Designated Hero: Thomas' actions seem very stalkerish, bizarre, and just plain unsettling throughout the course of the movie. Not to mention that he committed two felonies and a suicide.
- Glurge: The movie tries to make suicide into a moral victory.
- High Octane Nightmare Fuel: Seriously, death by jellyfish.

- Warped Aesop:
- Killing yourself is good, if you donate your organs. Also, to make sure your organs go to the right people, impersonate a member of state to stalk them. Preferably a family member so they do not report you to the police.
- Not standing up to a torrent of abuse from a total stranger is unarguable evidence that you are a good person.
- What an Idiot!: You want to donate all your organs to charity, so you inject yourself with a natural neurotoxin. If any of your vital organs are functional after that, it's a damn miracle.
