However, we only do that after making sure it's ready to go first.
Because I'm not seeing (or thinking of) any Western examples here. This may be a cultural thing that just doesn't happen in Western works.
If there is one I strongly suspect it would be something "inspired" by Japanese works. The video game (and Kizuna AI) examples would mean it's not just anime/manga.
