Talk:Invisible to Gaydar

Look I'll be blunt: This is an incredibly, incredibly stupid sounding trope name, and it's unwieldly as hell to boot. Like it or not, Straight Gay rolls off the tongue a lot better and flows much better than the current name. There's also the fact that it's an entirely unnecessary name change done exactly because an SJW got their panties in a twist over it. I thought changing things because other people complained was a TV Tropes thing, and that this site wasn't like that? I know it has unfortunate connotations, but that is not the intention, and a little mention in the trope's description could easily acknowledge that fact.

I suggest requesting other people comment by leaving them talk page messages.

As for me, I'm not opposed to a majority consensus in favor.

The article is not even consistent with the name change. Leaving "Straight Gay" in an article that's not named that is just confusing.

However, I think "Straight Gay" is kind of lame and not clever for a name. I suggest "Homely Gay", a riff on Hollywood Homely.

It's kind of a lame-sounding rename though. The main reason why I like Straight Gay so much is because it rolls off the tongue the best out of all other suggestions I've seen, and doesn't look clunky when used to describe characters or people.

I took a look at the original thread, and a valid point was made that Invisible to Gaydar has the same problem as Straight Gay -- it implies you can't tell the person's gay because of how "straight" they act. It doesn't use the word "straight", but the implication is there. Based on that, I wouldn't oppose a move back. I agree about the clunkiness, too. However, because of the aforementioned problem, we might want to consider a third option. "Anti-Camp Gay", perhaps? That sounds like they're opposed to camp gays, though.

Like I said, Straight Gay's name has unfortunate-sounding connotations, but it's clearly not meant to be offensive. A little note in the article that addresses the name's more controversial side would work fine, this trope's article over on TV Tropes did just that if memory serves.

Even if it's useless I'm just going to reiterate: this trope needs to have the old name back. It was seriously only changed due to pandering to the social justice crowd.

And this trope still has the shitty rename. What a joke.
