The Saboteur/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Complete Monster: Dierker. He also seems to be a rare combination of Jerk Jock and Torture Technician
  • Game Breaker: The third sabotage perk, with which planting bombs while in disguise is not considered suspicious by the guards. It's also very easy if rather tedious to acquire, but at least it can only be acquired late in the game. Once you have it, you can drop a bundle of dynamite sticks two meters from a Nazi, light the fuse, and leg it, and he'll just stand there and stare at it until it blows up in his face.
  • High Octane Nightmare Fuel: The whole of the Eiffel Tower before the final boss.
    • Escaping Doppelsieg after Jules is killed, and seeing a man on a medical table screaming. And this is supposed to be a motor works!
    • The Terror Squad. Giant gasmasked super soldiers with immensely overpowered weapons. Towards the endgame, you'll see them a lot in black-and-white areas, sometimes only seeing a flash of their armbands or gasmask lenses before they tear you to shreds in seconds with a machinegun, shotgun or flamethrower- choose your poison. To make matters worse, whether because of the gasmask or whatever they're made of under it, their voices are incredibly distorted, sounding like the creatures from your worst nightmares (think of the Zombine from Half Life). The alien screech one makes when it spots you has terrified This Troper on more than one occasion.
  • Historical Hero Upgrade: The real-life French Resistance was pretty Badass to begin with, but this game takes it to outright ridiculous levels - by the mid-to-late game it becomes a fairly regular occurrence for Resistance forces to meet the Germans in full-scale open battle and win, or at least hold their own competently.
  • Sidetracked by the Gold Saucer: The game's option of going around the city and countryside to destroy the various Nazi war and occupation equipment is probably what gave this game it's name, more than the actual French Resistance aspect. You'll spend so much time blowing up bridges, searchlights, AA guns, sniper nests, occupation towers, artillery, propaganda speakers, fuel depots, and various other things, that you'll probably forget who half the main characters are when you finally get around to resuming the storyline missions.
  • That One Level: The 1st freeplay race, 'On Your Marks...Get Set...' has you race through the streets of Paris with a unforgiving time limit, lots of traffic, and German checkpoints. It is possibly the hardest mission in the game. Since it is neccessary to unlock the other freeplay races and 4 perks, completionists have no option but to complete it.
