So we've learned from mistakes. Does this mean we'll be making backups more often? Should someone write a script to stick a dump in Amazon Glacier? --Damian Yerrick (talk) 20:18, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

That would be a good idea. Miraheze Staff have promised to help us make backups, please consult with them further on Miraheze Meta or on their IRC channel for more information.

Late reply: since a few months we automatically backup all databases to an off-site location (to a server physically located in another country (Chicago, US) than our current stack (Rotterdam, NL), and hosted by another provider (Backupsy instead of RamNode).

Does this include XML and image dumps? If so, mind linking me to them?

The backups are backups of /srv/MariaDB and /srv/MediaWiki-static (as well as other things). As such there are no XML backups were doing automatically as the point of a backup infrastructure for ourselves is to minimise what we store and only store what we need, as such XML does not make the cut as we will never use them. The backups are not stored on the Internet (for obvious reasons) and are restricted to operations and Labster (via urgent VNC) only.
