Topic on Talk:NetHack

Bringing the topic over from the EvilHack talk page: I questioned a few more people in IRC about it and they said that anything mentioned in the Guidebook shouldn't require spoiler tags. Good an idea though that is, I'm puzzled over just how far past that I should extend, especially considering there's an in-game lookup - "anything that would spoil the enjoyment of the game" is a pretty ambiguous boundary considering I heavily enjoy NetHack despite having been spoiled to hell and back before my first ascension earlier today.

So I'm soliciting input from anyone and everyone interested to figure out just how to handle it - as such, comments are appreciated.

Some works are simply more susceptible to spoiling than others -- and of course it also varies from person to person, but given that's the part we can't control, taking your experience as representative could set sort of an opposite approach: for a given detail, would spoiling it be more annoying than it's worth? Then if it either is a spoiler (therefore worth it) or is contestable but cheap to err on the 'safe' side, it gets hidden, otherwise, it is expected that most people would want it visible click-free.

"taking your experience as representative could set sort of an opposite approach"

Yeah, that's why I brought it up. I don't want my experience to be representative, and I know you guys encourage other perspectives, so that's why I'm doing all this. I'm going with the "safe" approach but I'm concerned I might be overdoing it somehow (or in some cases not doing it enough).
