I've seen "gay" still used as an umbrella term among lesbians and people of various other sexualities on Twitter - while I'm not inclined to die on this particular hill, I feel like there's a "One True Way"-ism at play here.
On that note, you don't always have to completely undo the entire edit - both of those only bother me slightly, but that's still way more of an issue than the usage of "homosexual" in the article (which again, I'm perfectly happy to leave alone).
