Tuca & Bertie/Heartwarming

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • No matter what, Tuca and Bertie have each other's backs. Bertie comforts Tuca when she sabotages the date with Deli Guy, and Tuca helps her confront Pastry Pete about the manhandling. Sure they have a big fight after Bertie tucks Tuca into bed post-surgery, but as Bertie pointed out, it's not that Tuca needed help that annoys her. She wanted to take her to the hospital the day before, cutting into her practice time for a baking event, but Tuca blew her off and could have died.
  • Speckle's growing friendship with Tuca. At first, she's the quirky friend that borrowed his sugar bowl without asking, and he doesn't understand her. He never finds her weird, however, and constantly supports the friendship that she and Bertie have sustained since college. There's never any of those predictable misunderstandings. They end up teaming up to help Bertie on more than one occasion, in near-perfect sync.
    • Speckle comes to provide emotional support when she visits her abusive Aunt Tallulah, keeping her sober by drinking her cocktails when Tuca asks, and saying in Sincerity Mode that forget Aunt Tallulah, he and Bertie are her family. Tuca's expression softens, as she considers this wasn't a waste of a trip at all.
    • When Speckle finds out that Tuca "borrowed" his laptop to make money as a virtual escort, he gets sucked into what he thinks is an erotic video game. Then the horse client that rescued her mistakes him for the real Tuca on the virtual dance floor, and asks if she's still in the hospital, leading him to find out Tuca needs potentially fatal surgery. Speckle takes charge by dialing Bertie, driving to the hospital, and talking the client through a messy breakup.
    • Speckle would have every reason to question Tuca about the spontaneous trip that Bertie took, ghosting him for a week. Tuca doesn't even have him as a contact on her flip phone. Instead, while he is mad at both of them, he knows that Tuca was not responsible for Bertie's actions, and teams up with her to deliver Sweet Beak deliveries before Molting Day.
    • When Bertie has a panic attack at the restaurant that Speckle has taken her to for their fifth-year anniversary, Speckle without hesitation texts Tuca for help. They then get under the table and coax Bertie that she's not a burden, or broken.
