Tuca & Bertie/YMMV
These things about Tuca & Bertie are subjective - not everyone will agree with all of them.
- Anvilicious: The show makes no bare-bones about the fact about how important communication is in all of your relationships. Tuca and Bertie strive to ignore the growing tension in their friendship since they no longer room together, because they don't want to lose the good times with the bad times. It leads to Tuca pushing Bertie out of her comfort zone and vice-versa with no respect for boundaries, like when Bertie innocently secures the Deli Guy's phone number for her friend because she thought Tuca would be happy going on a date with him, and Tuca didn't communicate that she's not ready to go on a date while sober. Bertie nearly jeopardizes her relationship with Speckle because she doesn't have the words to admit she's scared of long-term commitments and burdens like a mortgage--- a completely reasonable fear but the issue was she didn't tell Speckle-- or that she has trauma which affects her ability to trust others.
- Heartbreaking in Hindsight: Tuca & Bertie has quite a few:
- The pilot has Pastry Pete give back Speckle's sugar bowl to Bertie after the ridiculous croissant competition that Tuca set up between the two of them, as well as a job offer. (It's too late to save his grandmother's ashes though, which get baked into a cake that inhabits her spirit. Don't think about it.) He says that if she's working full-time, they can work something out. Bertie finally takes him up on his offer a few episodes later...and he proceeds to manhandle her, causing her to have a breakdown in the bathroom. It's hard to watch this moment after.
- In a heartwarming moment between Speckle and Bertie, where Speckle creates a romantic roleplay for Bertie after she admits, following an episode of miscommunication, she wants to add some surprises to their sex routine. They end up reviving the spark between their relationship. In the season one finale, Speckle calls out Bertie for refusing to answer her calls for a week, and was worried that something had happened to her. He says that he can't be the rock in their relationship to constantly provide emotional support or automatically knowing her needs. They do make up, but Bertie admits that she has a lot of work to make up for ghosting Speckle, to be his rock.
- When a sloshed Speckle witnesses Tuca taking emotional abuse from her aunt, he whispers for her to stand up to the lady. Later, he comforts Tuca that You Did the Right Thing by tearing up the woman's check after her aunt belittles her single mother. In the season finale, Tuca finds out that her aunt is in the hospital from cirrhosis, and their last conversation was a huge fight.
