Kiki's Delivery Service is a 1985 novel written by Eiko Kadono. You probably heard about the book from Studio Ghibli, but there's more to the story than that. There are elements and stories from the book that never made it into the film. Plus, there are a many sequels that cover the story after that. Unfortunately, though, if you want to read the sequels, you're probably out of luck (unless you know Mandarin or Japanese), because the sequels are not available in English.
The book series includes:
- Kiki's Delivery Service
- Kiki's New Magic
- Kiki and the Other Witch
- Kiki's Love
- The Tree where Magic Rests
Tropes used in Ilikecomputers/sandbox/Kiki's Delivery Service (novel) include:
This page has no trope entries and desperately needs them. You can help this wiki by adding relevant trope entries. |
- The Magic Goes Away: This has been slowly happening. The opening of Kiki's New Magic notes that Kiki only knows how to fly, but Kiki's mum can fly and make cough tonic. Kiki's grandmother knows even more magic, like spells to stop food from going bad. Magic is getting weaker and weaker as the generation of witches go on.
- Meaningful Name: Jiji is called "吉吉" in the Mandarin translation, meaning "lucky" or "fortuitous". Perhaps cats are supposed to bring good luck to witches?
