Tropes used in Attack on Titan (manga)/Recap/S1/E01 To You, in 2000 Years -The Fall of Shiganshina, Part 1 include:
  • Parting Words Regret: Eren's mom didn't exactly die on good terms with her son.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: Moses' grieving mother, seeking comfort, begs/demands the commander of the scout regiment to tell her that her son was brave, and that his death meant something. The commander says that her son was brave, but his death was meaningless. The commander says that every injury, every death, that the scout regiment has ever suffered, was in vain, because in its entire history, it has accomplished nothing of value.
  1. For some reason this line didn't end up appearing in the english dub, even though it was in the trailer, and it was said by a narrator (e.i. no lip sinc issues)]]
