- Alternate Character Interpretation: Either you see McDonagh as a Complete Monster who deserved every bad thing he got during the movie and manages to avoid all that, or as a Designated Hero whose life gets piled by problem after problem and had to set things straight.
- Non Sequitur Scene:
McDonagh: Shoot him again! |
- Complete Monster: As bad as McDonagh is, his partner Stevie is arguably worse. Sure, McDonagh may lie, cheat, steal, extort, and sexually abuse to get his kicks, but he does have standards and even quite a few Pet the Dog moments. Stevie doesn't, and there are several points throughout the movie where McDonagh, who is perpetually high on various controlled substances, has to be the voice of the reason and stop Stevie, who is stone-cold sober, from doing something terrible.
- He Really Can Act: Both Xzibit and Jennifer Coolidge in their first dramatic roles.
- Selfish Good, Selfish Evil: McDonagh is Chaotic Selfish.
