Bakuon!!/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

These things about Bakuon!! are subjective - not everyone will agree with all of them.

  • Bakuon!! has a suspicious similarity to K-On!. It was created at the height of the K-On! anime's popularity, and describing it as "K-On! only with motorcycles instead of musical instruments" is a lot more accurate than may seem at first. Just to note a few parallels:
    • Hane is basically Yui: a newcomer to the show's gimmick with distinctive Hair Decorations, who quickly becomes surprisingly skilled. She has a little sister who's a Yamato Nadeshiko and takes care of her scatterbrained older sister. Their parents are never seen.
    • Onsa corresponds to Ritsu: tomboyish, informal, and a strong advocate for their little group and the hobby it embraces. Both tie their hair back and look different with it down.
    • Rin is the Anti-Mio: Aggressive and snobbish where Mio is shy and retiring. Both are the tallest and bustiest of the girls in their groups.
    • Hijiri is an isolated, rich ojou and thus maps to Mugi. Like Mugi delighting in being "ordinary", Hijiri delights in the delusion/perception that she is a "bad girl". But where Mugi is possibly the most accomplished musician in Hokago Tea Time, Hijiri has no skill driving a motorcycle (at least until she takes lessons late in the show) and relies on her butler to drive her.
    • Chisame is Azusa: the younger student who joins the group who is already profoundly skilled, whose parents are also in the group's chosen field. They even share the same family name, written with the same characters. They're both tiny compared to the already-petite main characters, and have feline aspects to them.
    • Sawako's role in the show is split between Raimu (the Cool Big Sis type who was a member of an earlier generation of the club, and who mentors them) and Saruyama-sensei (whom they blackmail into being their faculty adviser).
    • Both shows avert Bland-Name Product and Brand X by showing real-world products with real-world trademarks at every turn.
    • Hane's new interest in motorcycles leads the girls to revive a moribund club.
    • The bike race at the festival maps to HTT's first public performance, which results in an unexpected popularity.
