Headbanger #1: Wha-? What's that sound!? |
A musical genre originating in the 1960s and 70s, influenced by Blues and Psychedelic Rock, emphasizing heavy, powerful sound with distorted guitars and (sometimes) extended solos.
Named after a line from "Born to Be Wild", Steppenwolf's most famous song - which is not an example of the style.
Famous for Heavy Metal Umlauts, as well as MetalHeads having huge online arguments about which bands are and aren't metal.
For an in-depth look, see Heavy Metal/Analysis and the Map of Metal.
Not to be confused with the animated film of the same name.
