I don't want to be That Guy...

...Especially not That "Stop Having Fun" Guy, but do we really need to keep this TVT in-joke around?

Derivative (talkcontribs)

I don't like it much either myself.

These are a collaborative fiction exercise, applying advertising tropes to tropes. So in theory this is entirely within the scope of ATT.

But I always get back around to the question: is it actually entertaining? Well, only mildly. It's the same joke on 43 pages. Bling Bling Bang/Trope Co isn't even funny. I was expecting to see options like Chaos Emeralds or Phlebotinum metal, but this is actually a service that could exist in reality. Is that the joke?

And somewhat more disturbing is this parenthetical in Damsel in Distress/Trope Co: Just don't actually hurt them, either physically, mentally, or sexually (unless they agree to any of those and sign a waiver)." Hahaha violence against women is totes OK if they sign a waiver.

From Force Field Door/Trope Co: "With Trope Co® new and improved Force Field Door™, you too can enjoy the peace of mind an invisible, intangible barrier can provide!" This is actually pretty funny. The rest of the page, not so much.

To me these pages don't really add value to the wiki, but they don't detract either. Right now I guess I'm indifferent.

I'd prefer a partial cleaning than absolutely nothing done at all Lab if that's what you're saying. A slimlined Trope Co (or renamed possibly) where we allow whatever is salvageable I will be fine with. If such were to occur and we were to allow creating these pages we would need to set some guidelines and templates etc.

Lulzkiller's solution sounds good, but if it can't be salvaged after attempting a cleaning, then torch it and salt the ashes.

How would y'all feel if we decided to collapse this into one page, laid out like a catalog? I think a lot of the problem here is that with unlimited resources, there was no need to edit out all of the multitudinous superfluous verbiage useless words. Lack of editing is cause #1 of bad writing.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Labster's solution sounds pretty good IMO.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

I'm cool with that. And if it doesn't work, it was worth the try.

Would we be using Tabber in that situation? A PDF? All on one page? Would be a bit messy without the previous two unless I'm being retarded again and not seeing the obvious solution.
