  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: Pops out in the second and third books, including Sennar levitating a whole pirate ship in order to escape a giant sea monster, Nihal fighting Dola and, of course, the final battle.
  • Iron Woobie: Vrasta the Wronged One Fammin. He knows that he could be forced to kill his friends Laio and Nihal at any time. Guess what happens.
  • Nightmare Fuel: What the Tyrant did to the Capital of the Land of the Days: specifically, he put a seal spell on the city so that the city is always like the day that it fell. Namely, with plenty of half-rotting, slaughtered half-elves' corpses all around.
  • Tear Jerker: Vrasta being forced to kill Laio and then begging for a Mercy Kill by Nihal. Later Nihal's death.
