Clash of the Elements/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Alas, Poor Villain: Smithy
  • Non Sequitur Scene: When the heroes are taking the Stargadd to the Origin Temple in Part 1, they are flung through multiple dimensions, where they see, as quoted from the text: "massively grotesque worms swallowing entire galaxies in one bite, titans made out of cosmic radiation juggling suns in the palm of their hands, and a massive spider walking along a web made out of approximately one million planets". Naturally, none of this is brought up by any of them once they arrive at their destination.
    • However, when this happens again in the Extra Chapter, the bizarreness of it all is noticed and Lampshaded by Alex as he witnesses it all:

"Is there really any purpose to this?"

  • Chaotic Evil: Joe Dark
  • Complete Monster: Unsurprisingly considering the game he originated from, Dimentio qualifies for this trope. The atrocities he committed in that game still apply, but as he eventually reveals, not only is he the creator of the Dark Prognosticus, but he is the one responsible for Blumiere's descent into madness, since he killed and disguised himself as his father and banished his love Lady Timpani in order to break his mind. Affably Evil or not, this behavior cannot also excuse the fact that he continuously rubs his misdeeds into Luigi and Driad's faces in order to piss them both off. He is such a despicable villain that unlike his companion Smithy, his final moments do NOT qualify him for an Alas, Poor Villain death just because he is such a morale-depraved individual!
  • Growing the Beard: Debatable, like most tropes on this page, but while Part 1 has some glaring grammar problems and lack of focus at the beginning, the story steadily improves throughout and becomes rather consistent around Chapter 13...Though there are still some grammar issues here and there.
    • However, the beard grows even further in Movie 1, where there are a LOT less grammar mistakes, the battles feel more steamlined, and more details words are used in the narrative to avoid repetition.
  • Mind Screw: Besides the aforementioned Non Sequitur Scene entry, there is also the aftermath of Cackletta's defeat in Chapter 42, which was actually done on purpose by her to mess with Alex's head.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Joe Dark's Vicious slaughtering of the Genesis Samurais definitely qualifies under this, more so considering how he basically spits on their honor after their deaths. This trope is even discussed afterwards by Alpha who even says straight out that "You've crossed the horizon, now we're gonna make you fall."
  • Shocking Swerve: Xemnas killing Sora and Riku as revealed in Cackletta's story in Chapter 25 of Part 2. If that wasn't enough of a sudden twist on established canon, then the fact that their deaths led to a series of events that almost had the Realm of Darkness consume the universe should qualify for this trope.
