Justice League (2017 film)/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

These things about Justice League (2017 film) are subjective - not everyone will agree with all of them.

  • Acceptable Targets: A lot of Snyderverse fans are sure to make fun of the Whedon Cut.
  • Anticlimax Boss: The defeat of Steppenwolf was underwhelming.
  • Author's Saving Throw: While Snyderverse fans may disagree on most of them, they did win over some non-Snyderverse fans.
    • Superman is more like the Big Blue Boy Scout from the comics.
    • The coloring is brighter, the pacing is faster and the plot is simpler.
    • There is a lot of levity in this film, with the Flash being the comic relief.
  • Broken Base: Which is better: Zack Snyder or Joss Whedon?
  • Fanon Discontinuity: Before the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League, many Snyderverse fans believed that the Whedon Cut exists in an alternate reality.
  • Friendly Fandoms: Fans of the Whedon Cut also happen to like The Emperor's New Groove or the Dindal Cut for both being more lighthearted final products than the director's original vision.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The movie broke box office records in Brazil, having the biggest opening weekend of all time up to that date and ending up as the fourth highest grossing movie of the year and the highest grossing superhero movie of 2017 on that country. Part of that can be attributed to the enduring popularity of the DCAU, from which the movie shares some similarities in terms of tone.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks: Many fans complained that the Whedon Cut is more of an Avengers rip-off than a Justice League movie.
  • Narm: Oh, boy. Where do we begin?
    • The Flash keeps talking about brunch in two scenes.
    • Superman asks Batman "Tell me. Do you bleed?" and Batman falls with him saying "Something's definitely bleeding." It worked in the context of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice given that the question was said by Batman but it doesn't in the Whedon Cut's context given that Batman is a human.
    • Martha Kent calls Lois Lane the "thirstiest" or "hungriest" woman of all time. We still don't know if that's Martian Manhunter talking or just Martha Kent.
    • Lois tells Superman that he smells good.
  • Narm Charm:
    • Bruce Wayne's speech about friendship is one of the few things Snyderverse fans liked and were unhappy it didn't appear in the Snyder Cut.
    • Superman saying to Steppenwolf that he's is not just a big fan of power but also a big fan of justice had some nice delivery reminiscent of the Christopher Reeve films.
  • Nightmare Retardant: Steppenwolf's design doesn't look scary at all.
  • Only the Creator Does It Right: It is agreed[please verify] that Zack Snyder's cut is better than the Whedon Cut.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: Ray Fisher, Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa openly talked about Joss Whedon's abusive and unprofessional behavior.
  • Scapegoat Creator: Joss Whedon got a lot of flak for changing Justice League.
  • So Okay It's Average: Non-Snyderverse fans look at the film this way.
  • Special Effects Failure: The visual effects are cartoony and bad by 2017 standards.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash's screen time was underutilized.
    • Darkseid was only given a single mention and didn't show up.
  • Took the Bad Film Seriously: Aside from the removed mustache, Henry Cavill still did a great job as Superman.
  • Unacceptable Targets: Making fun of Zack Snyder given of his daughter Autumn's suicide could lead you into serious trouble.
  • Uncanny Valley: In the Whedon Cut, Henry Cavill's mustache was removed with CGI, making Superman have a weird upper lip.
  • Uncertain Audience: With two directors' clashing visions together, it didn't appeal to either Snyderverse fans or Whedon fans.
  • Unfortunate Implications: Joss Whedon reduced the amount of screen time for characters of color and deleted some of their roles.
