A 2001 videogame, an interquel between MegaMan X3 and X4.

The story of the game involves a phenomenon known as "ERASURE" that erases the programs of Reploids. Our heroes, Zero and X, are investigating this kind of phenomenon in a place known as Laguz Island with the help of a novice member of the Maverick Hunters, Iris. Soon Zero and X discover the island is filled with Mavericks they thought they had destroyed.

Not too long after, Zero and X meet a Reploid called Gareth that criptically talk about "erasing the souls of Evil Mavericks". Proving Violence Is the Only Option, Gareth says that after Zero and X defeats eight "guardians" (actually, eight resurrected Mavericks) placed around the island, he will battle them and possibly give them the answers they search for.

With little to no clues about the "Erasure" phenomenon, Zero and X decide to take the violent nostalgia trip that Gareth offers to them.

Developed and published by Capcom.

Tropes used in Mega Man Xtreme 2 include:
  • Absurdly Spacious Sewer? Volt Catfish's stage is one of these.
  • Back from the Dead: Despite exploding them to pieces, X and Zero find and fight Mavericks from previous games, that were resurrected somehow.
  • Everything's Better with Spinning: One of Launch Octopus's attacks involve spinning around creating a tornado to suck the player character in.
  • Mission Control: Iris serves as this for X and Zero.
  • One-Hit Kill:
    • The machine-generated tornadoes in Overdrive Ostrich's stages kill the player character instantly.
    • The same for the electrified wave in Volt Catfish's stage.
  • Our Souls Are Different: Apparently the Reploids' DNA also make double duty as their souls.
  • Strictly Formula: There's no good reason why X and Zero couldn't fight Gareth the first time they find him other than "fighting 8 bosses before going fighting the Big Bad is what happens in every Mega Man game".
  • Shifting Sand Land: Overdrive Ostrich' stage is part this, part Megaman-default metallic building. You do fight him on the sand. If you don't know why you would fight a bird on a desert, let us tell you that some ostrichs live in the desert.
  • Under the Sea: Launch Octopus' stage, obviously.
  • Underwater Boss Battle: X or Zero battle Launch Octopus while both are surrounded by water.
