    • Base Breaker: One of the ultimate ones in Professional Wrestling. If you're a wrestling fan, either you're on Bret's side and see Shawn and/or Triple H and/or Vince as the lowlifes who crossed a line that never should have been crossed and ruined a man's life/career in the process; or you're on Shawn's side and you think that Vince and Co. had a legitimate business risk in Bret, who was acting childish in refusing to drop the belt.
      • Take a Third Option: Or you think both sides were just being childish and it should have never have gotten that far in the first place.
      • Take A Fourth Option: Or you think this may have indeed been the most brilliant work in wrestling history and proof that Vince McMahon always usually ALWAYS had a solution laced with long-term thinking five steps ahead of anything WCW tried.
    • The Bad Guy Wins: Vince McMahon got exactly what he wanted out of this screwjob, and more besides. This was pretty much the turning point in the Monday Night Wars, the birth of the Attitude era, and all he had to do was get rid of a troublesome wrestler who was already on his way out. As Mr McMahon he became the main character (or main villain) of his own show, and the following year his company had some of the best matches, angles, and PPV's it ever had, to say nothing of the publicity that came with what he just did. Bret, for his part, literally screwed Bret, as WCW squandered his talent, a clear symptom of their own inevitable decline.
    • Canadian Wrestling Fans Hate: Vince McMahon, Shawn Michaels, and former WWE/current TNA referee Earl Hebner...
      • Never Live It Down: ...are almost always met with chants of "You screwed Bret!" whenever they pop up in Canada.
    • Crowning Moment of Awesome: The Undertaker has to have this for not only threatening Vince with most of the talent walking out unless he tries to make amends, but keeping his job and top spot because he was that important.
      • He even pounded on Vince's door when he hid after the screwjob and demanded he get his ass OUT there now or he'd knock down the door and kick it instead.
      • This probably also qualifies as a Big Damn Heroes moment too, because the backstage backdraft would have probably been much worse than it already was if he didn't do so.
    • Internet Backdraft: Go ahead, mention the Screwjob on a wrestling discussion forum. We'll wait for the Bret vs. Shawn and Bret vs. Vince feuding to die down. Then the Triple H hate will start up.
