Music, Dance Instructions Included

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.
It's just a jump to the left, and a step to the ri-i-i-i-ight

One hop this time

—"Cha Cha Slide"

A song that tells you how to dance to at least part of the song, almost always in the lyrics, but visual instructions in a music video also count. It is not necessary for the song to say how to do the entire (or even most of) the dance, even one visual aid (other than actual dancing of course) or line of lyrics that tell you how to dance is enough to qualify.

If the song only vaguely alludes to its dance moves, and it's more insistent on how you should be enjoying dancing to it and how popular the song or the dance is, then it is a Dance Sensation

Examples of Music, Dance Instructions Included include:

Film

  • The Rocky Horror Picture Show has "The Time Warp" (the lyrics of which qualify on its own). In addition to the lyrics they have a picture that shows 2 dance steps—the two easiest ones, of course.

Music

Rock Concert Movement Number Four: The Behind-The-Head Leg Stretch...

  • Caramelldansen — at least the English version — includes lyrics instructing the listener to dance in the manner of the Popotan opening.
  • Latin American music is big on this. Basic rule is that the song is tittle "El Baile del [X]" (lit. "The Dance of X") there is a high chance that either the dance instructions will be on the lyrics or the video will display the dance.

Video Games

  • Every dance-themed Rhythm Game.
    • Foot-operated games such as Dance Dance Revolution and Pump It Up overlay dance instructions on top of the song's video that tell the player where to step when.
      • Among the songs in DDR, "The 7 Jump" is the closest to this trope: the exact instructions aren't explained, but it sounds like they are. The original video is a bit more explicative.
    • Just Dance has pictographs in the corner telling which way to swing the Wii Remote (or what moves to do, if you are playing the Xbox + Kinect version), in case you can't catch up with the dancers in the main screen.

Web Original

  • And Now, a Word From Our Sponsors uses the song "Burger Dance (International Remix)" (which qualifies on its own). In addition, there are visual aids on how to dance (aside from 'dancers').
