Please Kill Me If It Satisfies You/Playing With

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Basic Trope: Having wronged another, a character offers them the chance to take their life if it will make them happy.

  • Straight: Eva, one of Emperor Evulz' former followers, offers Nigel the chance to kill her to make up for how she helped destroy his Doomed Hometown.
  • Exaggerated: Prior to her Heel Face Turn, Eva's misdeeds hurt Albert, Marcy, and all of their companions in various ways. After coming to regret her actions, she offers each of them the chance to take her life.
  • Justified: Eva had a My God, What Have I Done? realization that had a profound impact on her.
  • Inverted: Eva ruthlessly pursues and kills everyone she has wronged (and their relatives), so that they cannot regroup to take revenge on her later.
  • Subverted: Eva offers Nigel to kill her but when he takes aim, she loses her confidence and begs him to spare her.
  • Double Subverted: Seeing her like that, Nigel says she's Not Worth Killing. Ashamed, Eva gets up and repeats her offer, this time without wavering.
  • Parodied: Eva starts to give a melodramatic speech to Nigel and his companions about how revenge is hollow and won't solve anything, but if they really feel it will help to fill the void, then they can strike her down ri--
  • Deconstructed: Nigel takes her up on the offer. It doesn't satisfy his desire for vengeance at all.
  • Reconstructed: Nigel still desires vengeance but with nobody to exact it upon, it becomes unbearable. Therefore, when Eva's former fiancé tries to kill him, he doesn't resist.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Eva doesn't offer the ones she wronged to kill her.
  • Enforced: To make sure the audience has no doubts Eva is a good character now, this scene is shot... despite the fact that Eva's wrongdoings don't really warrant death penalty.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: After her Heel Face Turn, Eva wants to help The Chosen One defeat Emperor Evulz. However, Albert tells her that he won't let her join unless she first clears it with Nigel... by offering her very life to him in exchange for the lives she took.
  • Defied: Nigel realizes what Eva is about to offer him and refuses before she can voice it, because killing unarmed enemy is dishonorable.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Intended Audience Reaction: It's very clear that Eva is suicidally depressed and wracked with guilt over her wrongdoings. When Nigel doesn't kill her, she says she understands... And attempts to do it herself.
  • Played For Laughs: Eva starts to tell Nigel he can kill her if it will really help him get over how she wronged him, but then has to duck under his blade, shocked that he's actually taking her up on it. She only offered because the heroes never actually take anyone up on that suggestion, don't they...?
  • Played For Drama: Nigel lost everything he had when Eva destroyed his homeland. Eva has since lost everything she had
