Sealed Cast in a Multipack/Playing With

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Basic Trope: Multiple characters were sealed away long ago and must be unsealed in the present.

  • Straight: Alice and Bob must unseal each of the Clairions, ancient heroes from a bygone era, so that they can defeat the Big Bad Damion. Each episode features a new member of the cast being unsealed to defeat the Monster of the Week.
  • Exaggerated: In addition to Alice and Bob unsealing Clairions, Damion is trying to unseal his evil team of Damionites and both sides are also trying to find Excalburians; extremely powerful Chaotic Neutral Equippable Allies who agreed to fight for whoever unsealed them first. Each episode sees a Damionite being unsealed, before being challenged by a newly unsealed Clairion with the winner claiming an Excaliburian for their side. In the finale, both teams also find their respective Sealed Army in a Can of redshirts and Mooks.
  • Downplayed: The Clairions are sealed in different parts of an ancient temple. The first episode features Alice and Bob helping unseal them all (handily allowing each one to be introduced one at a time).
  • Justified: The Clarions had to seal themselves away in case Damion ever returned and they sealed themselves in different locations as they knew he would return before they woke up and didn't want to run the risk of them all being found and slain in their sleep.
  • Inverted: The Clarions travel the land looking for a good place for each of them to seal themselves away because The World Is Not Ready.
  • Subverted: Alice and Bob quickly find a button labelled "press here to wake everyone up" which also summons all the Clairions to their position.
  • Double Subverted: They still need to prevent Damion tracking down his old minions.
  • Parodied: The methods and placement of sealings are downright bizarre. Alice and Bob spend each episode accomplishing sillier and sillier tasks to unlock each cast member.
  • Deconstructed: They've been sealed away for a long time. The heroes or villains might unseal a former comrade, only for them to have gone a Heel Face Turn or Face Heel Turn, or else simply not survived to the present day.
  • Reconstructed: The "can" moves from physically freeing the characters to finding their reincarnations or decendents, who can pick up where they left off.
  • Zig Zagged: Some of the cast members were sealed...others just turn up for no reason.
  • Averted: Rather than seal themselves away the Clarions took steps to ensure that Damion and his minions wouldn't be a threat in the future.
  • Enforced: The show is Merchandise-Driven and they need a reason to introduce new characters whenever they bring in a new toyline.
  • Lampshaded: "So we're going to have to unseal each of you manually? Haven't you guys ever heard of a panic button?"
  • Defied: The Clarions set up an alarm system which would automatically break their seals when Damion returned and agreed to meet in a specific place (with contingency plans), as well as leaving behind tablets and other records so whoever ended up in charge of the world would know who they were.
  • Discussed: "So what do I do when I find these 'Clarion keys?', then?" "Unlock my fellow Clarions, dur."
  • Conversed: "Oh, so they're going to be looking for the rest of them for the rest of the series?"
  • Exploited: Claire, the leader of the Clairions, knew that they can't defeat Damion's army, so she decided to spread everyone around (forcing Damian to do the same) in the hope that it would leave them at more of an advantage.
  • Played for Laughs: The sealed characters weren't warned ahead of time and tend to be unsealed in various states of undress and/or confusion.
  • Played for Drama: Several Clarions are killed by Damion's forces before they can even be woken up. The audience is treated to flashbacks of them, just to make sure they care.
