Striptease (film)/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Follow the Leader: Subverted. While many notice this movie came out a year after Showgirls, the two movies are only similar in that they involve strippers. Showgirls was an attempt to make a serious movie that turned into a farce, and the only one who seemed to know about it was Gina Gershon, and her acting showed. Striptease was intended to be a comedy, and was bad partially because they only one who didn't seem to know it was the star, Demi Moore, as she seemed to be trying to play the role completely straight.
  • Squick - Ving Rhames puts a cockroach in a yogurt pot in order to make a phony lawsuit to the manufacturer. The lawyer's secretary eats the thing...
    • Not to mention Dilbeck's claim that he "made love" to a hunk of dryer lint, although to be fair, that joke was also in the book.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: By all logic, this movie should have been good. It was based on a New York Times bestseller, it was directed, co-produced and written by Andrew Bergman (the guy whose resume includes Blazing Saddles and The Freshman) and plenty of A-list stars, including Armand Assante, Ving Rhames, Robert Patrick, Burt Reynolds, and of course, Demi Moore. Unfortunately, it seemed this was one case where the result was far less than the sum of its parts.
  • What Do You Mean It Wasn't Made on Drugs?: Some of the humor in this movie is so bizarre that you start to wonder is all the work Assante did with Mel Brooks caused Brooks' eccentricities start to rub off on him, and that's what you wonder about the parts that are actually funny.
