Failure to launch?

This page has 1 wick and 0 examples. The description feels valid, but outside of Kwyjibo and Smart People Play Chess, there's no support for the page currently.

I just checked the TVT version. It's unchanged since the fork, as best as I can tell, and has five wicks, four of which are indexes or "needs more wicks". (I was hoping it had examples we could crib and rewrite in our own words, but no such luck.) I think we should put both an "examples"+"media" template and a "work needs examples" template on the page. (And in fact, I just did so.) And then search/brainstorm for examples to add to it.

I don't see the "Hollywood" element.

Labster (talkcontribs)

I'm still unclear as to what the "Hollywood" element even is. Is it another way of saying "tropey", like "Tropey Biology" or "Tropey Board Games"?

In any case moved back to Trope Workshop because I think we need actual examples before any kind of launch. Maybe it just needs to be an index of Board Game Tropes and that would be OK too.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Well. Eight examples now, with at least token attention paid to how the games were used as symbols, foreshadowing and other storytelling elements. I'd say we can redeploy this to the wiki, along with a little work to create inbound wicks.

My only real concern is the trope name -- elsewhere we use "Hollywood X" as a pejorative, an abbreviation of sorts for Did Not Do the Research -- see Hollywood Geography for perhaps the archetypal example. This Is Not That Trope -- this is "using a board game as a storytelling element or device". What's a better, Clear, Concise, Witty alternative?

Exposition: the Board Game?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

I've thought on that for over a week, and it really doesn't grab me, but it's better than what it is now.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

I'd like to launch this, but it really does need a better name first. If no one has anything else to offer, I'll be going with LulzKiller's suggestion.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

And no response... launching as "Exposition: the Board Game".
