Anyone object to kicking this out into wide world to fend for itself?

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

It was my baby to begin with, so I don't mind... :)

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Very good, then.

Rob, have you any more examples?

Because this is four months old and getting a little stale. @Robkelk

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

I recall a tabletop gaming example from In Nomine, but I don't remember whether that was a published or online adventure. I'll need to do a bit of research. Other than that one, I've listed every example that I can think of.

I can't think of any myself, other than listing all the ones that are already in the main text. Maybe we should just nuke the examples and turn it into a Useful Note?

What is the scope of this trope? Is it any fictional work which calls out some obscure event like "Secretary's Day" or is it specifically the "Hallmark holiday" marketing of that day being expressly called out and lampshaded in the work?

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

It's the marketing.

Which means "Black Friday" is an example, bringing us up to six. (EDIT: So is Super Bowl Sunday, thanks to the Super Bowl Special ads.) We might be able to turn this into a proper trope after all.

Mentioning obscure holidays falls under Shown Their Work.
