The Bright Side is a Web Comic about friendship, optimism, and the realities of life. The Slice of Life strips focus primarily on the friendship between cheerful optimist Suzie Pumpernickel and gloomy pessimist Stormcloud Johnson. Other characters include Stormcloud's sassy sister Rainbow, bookworm Egret Rivers, and the laid-back Daisy Damselfly.

Tropes used in The Bright Side include:
  • Art Evolution: The comic was originally done completely digitally, but is now hand-painted in gouache.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: Most strips utilize a limited color palette.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose In Life: Stormcloud constantly struggles with this one.
  • Foil: All of the characters act as foils to each other in some manner. This is played up as a major part of the comic's premise. Most notably Suzie/Stormcloud and Rainbow/Egret.
  • Genki Girl: Suzie
  • Improbable Hairstyle: Suzie's hair dollops
  • Les Yay: Arguably Suzie and Rainbow. Some panels even suggest the author agrees.
    • As of the latest comic, Rainbow/Egret as well.
  • Manic Pixie Dream Girl: Suzie to Stormcloud
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Rainbow to Suzie
  • Vague Age: All of the characters are portrayed as "young", but their exact ages are deliberately vague.
  • Will They or Won't They?: An interesting case in that it's never explicitly stated *what* Suzie and Stormcloud's relationship is. You're never sure if they are just good friends or if they are already dating. Also interesting in that delineating their relationship is of very minor importance, if any at all, in the comic. Any of the strips would work regardless of their relationship status, it's only important to know that the two care about each other and are very close.
