The Last of Us Part II is the 2020 sequel to The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog. Set around five years after the events of the first game, Joel and Ellie are living mostly peacefully in Jackson, along with Ellie's new girlfriend Dina who recently broke up with Jesse. During one cold winter day, Ellie and Dina are sent on their usual patrols while Jessie goes to relieve Joel and Tommy from their respective patrols.

Little did any of them know that a small survivor group is nearby and that they would have a violent encounter with them that leaves one of their own dead. Ellie isn't one to let that stand and soon embarks on another trip across the country to get her revenge.

Tropes used in The Last of Us Part II include:
  • And Now for Someone Completely Different: After Ellie and Abby finally come face-to-face with each other again in the theater, the game suddenly shifts control over to Abby for the entire second act. This also happens during a portion of the third act.
  • Cassandra Truth: When Ellie tries to tell Dina that she's immune to the infection early on, she doesn't believe her. She swiftly changes her tune after Ellie takes her mask off in a spore-filled area after it breaks.
  • I Surrender, Suckers: Enemies can sometimes surrender to you, but trying to spare them and walk away will have them just get right back up to attack you again.
  • Never Trust a Trailer: One of the more egregious examples of this. The trailers made it appear as though Joel was not the victim of the attack, complete with Missing Trailer Scenes set afterwards, and heavily implies that Dina was the victim instead. In the actual game, Joel gets beaten to death before said scenes happen and Dina is the one who accompanies Ellie.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: The premise of the game. Ellie goes across the post-apocalyptic United States to avenge her loved one.
  • Sudden Sequel Death Syndrome: After surviving the entirety of the first game, Joel is led to a group of former Fireflies and gets tortured and beaten to death early on.
  • What Measure Is a Mook?: In the final showdown Ellie chooses to spare Abby, forgoing the revenge that drove most of the plot. Of course, this is after she has murdered countless numbers of her friends, allies, dogs and a pregnant woman.
