The Last of Us Part II/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

These things about The Last of Us Part II are subjective - not everyone will agree with all of them.

  • Critical Dissonance: To even a bigger degree than its predecessor, that is almost an accomplishment. It received several awards for excellence from multiple websites, newspapers and other gaming publications, only to receive massive backlash and being endlessly mocked by several gamers for a perceived lack of quality of its storyline. In GameFAQs, the user score for the PS4 version is 3.15, that don't looks so bad if it wasn't for the fact it was the fourth-lowest score of 2020 for games who received over 100 votes; for comparison's sake, it's only above disasters like the Square Enix's Avengers game.
  • Memetic Badass: A random NPC that punches a kid in a very photogenic pose out of absolutely nowhere was soon nicknamed Fat Geralt by the fanbase, thanks to looking like a pudgy version of Geralt of Rivia, and was falsely attributted to be incredibly powerful thanks to appearing on-camera like he had teleportation powers, along with powers the actual Geralt has.
  • Narm: Whatever was the original intention of the sex scene between Abby and her boyfriend, laughs certainly wasn't one. It was soon edited to put multiple other characters on the scene instead by people who found it incredibly hilarious, mostly on 4chan.
  • Non Sequitur Scene: The sex scene between Abby and her boyfriend serves no purpose whatsover; it's not like the audience didn't knew they weren't intimate and affectionate already.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: Joel's killing at the hands of Abby, and the game subsequent attempts to justify such an fact despite the scene happenning immediately after Joel saved her life, managed to overcome many other aspects of the game.
  • True Art Is Angsty: One of the most acclaimed video games of the early 2020s is also incredibly bleak and depressing, including a Downer Ending with little to none positive points aside of a few sympathetic characters being still alive. Such angst is also yet another point of controversy, with many gamers criticing gaming media for glorifying such angst that many felt it was so bleak it outright crossed into Narm or Glurge.
