- Executive Meddling - Was going to be in color and 3D before the studio got cold feet. This could be argued to have been a good thing, as the planned color of the ants (green) could have been Nightmare Retardant.
- Follow the Leader - This film owes a bit to The Beast From Twenty Thousand Fathoms and Godzilla, and was, itself, the inspiration for countless subsequent movies about big bugs, none of which were anywhere near as good as the three aforementioned films, and most of which wound up on Mystery Science Theater 3000.
- Hey, It's That Guy! - one reason this is one of the best giant monster movies from the 1950s.
- That's James Whitmore as state policeman Peterson.
- There's Santa Claus as the not-so-mad scientist with the answers.
- And Marshall Matt Dillon leading the FBI against the ants.
- With Spock making a cameo appearance as a radio operator on an ant-infested ship.
- And perhaps most famously, Davy Crockett himself is locked in the nut house following a run in with the ants.
