Yes, we are grateful that you are creating new pages for the wiki. But please stop taking TVT pages we don't have and rewriting each individual sentence and paragraph. This is not the way to create an original page for our wiki.

So, how do I create an original trope page? Which carries the idea over, so I won't be copying them. I've already gotten in trouble about this and I'd like to become a better troper, hence not doing those crazy risks that can jeopardize this site.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Have you ever heard of "reverse engineered clean room" design?

The idea is that the basic idea is the same as something you don't have, like a page they have written in your own words, at least the intro description if nothing else.

Past that, pretend the original page does not exist and hunt down examples YOU are personally able to write entirely on your own without even looking twice at TV Tropes.

The end result is a page the covers the same basic idea as theirs, but is so overly written in your own words without writing a ripoff of their content based on what you can discover without their page as a guide you will easily be able to claim your work is not in violation of copyright.

Copyright law works on the principle that a comparison of your work is just original enough they can't claim you ripped off anything more than, at most, the basic idea, like they designed a wall phone and yours is placed on a table, but they both serve as phones.

However, if the documentation you write for your phone is done without basically rewording their documentation, they can't claim you did anything more than come up with another form of phone, which, basic concept aside, shares so little with their work they can't call you a thief because you come up with it without using their phone as a guide.

Nope, never heard of "reverse engineered clean room." So, it's similar to how I did the Black Panther page. Pretend that it's not there in Tv Tropes and go for it.

The first one is fine, check the grammar of the second some more.

Jade Shauni (talkcontribs)

Got it, I was fixing the first one.

Jade Shauni (talkcontribs)

Hey, does Forgettable Character need work or is it good to go?

Jade Shauni (talkcontribs)

Hey, what shall I work on to fix this page?

Robkelk (talkcontribs)
GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Provisional OK from me, only if no one objects.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Oh, gee, I forgot about this page entirely. <grin>

Hm. Let's see.

A rewrite is called for. That first sentence needs to be untangled badly. It reads like two or maybe even three sentences jammed together with no regard to readability. In fact, there are a lot of run-ons, and the first two paragraphs really don't give a sense of what the trope is about. Is it about a character who has incidentally become forgettable, or who has jumped through hoops to make himself so? It's hard to tell.

Outside of that, well, there certainly are enough examples, although with the confusion I get reading the description it's hard for me to tell if they're all appropriate.

Jade Shauni (talkcontribs)

Okay, I tried fixing the examples earlier, because I thought that they were the ones causing the problems and I wasn't thinking about the description except "At least it's not copying TVT."

Jade Shauni (talkcontribs)

According to TVT it's supposed to be other characters forgotten that a character ever existed in universe, whether they're too average or blending into the background (and whatever reason).
