Regarding your pending edit to "Legend of Mana"...

Your edit reason reads

I don't know what the rules on copying from TVT are, but since I wrote 95% of the Legend of Mana article over there, I say they're my edits

Well. We have a legal problem there. Either the text is all yours, and you have the legal ability to grant us a license for its use, or it's a mix of your work and other peoples', in which we are legally required to get separate and individual written approvals for the use of their copyrighted content. You can't just claim you own and can license everyone else's stuff because 95% of the text is yours -- that's you basically stealing their copyrights. (And per Section 2.1 of All The Tropes:How We Do Bans Around Here, "Falsely representing oneself as having the right to authorize copying content from TV Tropes" is grounds for an immediate permanent ban.)

So. With your explicit admission that 5% of this material is not your work we can't accept it -- it would put the wiki at legal risk. All we can suggest is

  • Backtrack through the edit history for the page on TVT to identify anything that isn't your writing and either
    • Get explicit permission from those contributors to repost their work here, or
    • Delete or rewrite those passages
  • Or rewrite the entire contribution from scratch to avoid using any content from TVT at all.

Be aware that we do check, and any amount of text, no matter how small, that is clearly copied from TVT can get the edit rejected for copyright infringement unless you can definitively claim it as yours. And we check that, too, as well as we can, because of section 2.1.

We'll leave it up to you how to handle it. No sanctions or punishments or anything, because you were honest enough to let us know up front. And to the extent that we can, we'll advise you and help you to come up with content we can accept and use. We just can't use it as-is.

Thanks.
