Gonna have to pass on that one, since I've been inactive here for longer than 60 days (in fact, I haven't done anything since March 21st), plus I'm also considering retiring from the site altogether.

Fair enough. Thank you for your contributions.

I have deleted one of the new tropes you added to "Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid" in your most recent edit...

...because it linked to TV Tropes instead of a trope page on this wiki. This is a violation of wiki rules. Per All The Tropes:Works Page Guidelines, Section 3 "What Not To Do":

Do not link to TV Tropes in order to include a trope we don't have documented here. If the trope is so important that you just must have it in the work page, propose it in the Trope Workshop and then add it to the page when it passes muster. We do not link to TV Tropes for any reason

This is not a bannable offense, but it does mean we'll be watching your contributions far more closely for the foreseeable future.

Sorry, I didn't realise that I couldn't do that. I'll keep that in mind moving forward.

Just a reminder, ThunderKat, per wiki rules, the terms of our licensing and copyright law, we require a license when you upload an image, and we'd really like a URL to where you got it in case we ever have to replace it. The image you uploaded over the weekend, File:Steins;Gate 0 cover art.jpg is lacking both. Can you please provide at least an appropriate license, even if it's just fair use? Otherwise we'll be forced to delete the image to protect the wiki from legal liability.

Thank you!

By the way, here's a link to the source just in case: []

ThunderKat (talkcontribs)

Hi Looney.

I just got your message, I just want to ask: how do I go about obtaining a license?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

It's not a matter of obtaining, you simply have to declare it on uploading. It's all there in the help page I linked you to above.

In the case of an image acquired from Wikipedia like this one, what you do is at upload time you would go the the Licensing dropdown and pick the option that reads "I got this from Wikipedia or another Wikimedia project, and the file will be used in a way that qualifies as fair use under US law". Then you paste at least part of their licensing justification into the description. Here, take a look at a file from Wikipedia I uploaded yesterday: File:Squid_Game.jpg.

When you edit a file after it's uploaded, you don't get the licensing combobox, so you'll have to add the license manually. That's done by just adding

== Licensing ==
{{From Wikimedia fairuse}}

to the file description. To get the license terms from Wikipedia, you click on the image, and if necessary the blue "details" button in the lower right corner of the page that appears when you do that.

If you upload a file from another source, the choice of license will be different. But generally if it's not a Creative Commons license like FANDOM/Wikia uses, you can simply declare "Fair Use" ("This will be used in a way that qualifies as fair use under US law" in the drop-down). If you choose fair use, though, we have to use the file somewhere, otherwise we're legally required to delete it.

Hi, it's me again.

Just letting you know that the issue has been taken care of, and I hope it is near enough to what you need. I apologise for any headaches this may have caused, and thanks for your assistance.

- Kat

No problem, and it's perfect. Given how many people in similar situations have flat out refused to even respond to messages like these (and subsequently got their uploads deleted to protect the wiki), it's a delight to run into someone who actually is willing to do the right and necessary thing. Thank you.

ThunderKat (talkcontribs)

No worries at all! I'll just have to be a little more careful in future.
