Yoshi's Story/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Crowning Moment of Funny: The pipe stages with rap in the background. So incongruous.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: The music played in The Tall Tower.
    • The ending music.
    • The opening theme is quite something as well.
    • Baby Bowser's Lullaby, anyone?
    • The whole damn soundtrack.
      • If you listen real closely to the BGM as you progress from one stage to the next, you'll realize that most of the songs are actually different mixes of the same riff. Awesomeness on the part of the composer.
  • Game Breaker: The unlockable black and white Yoshis. If you thought the game was easy enough with the other Yoshis, the game will present no challenge to you when using the unlockable ones. They can eat anything in the game without taking damage, regardless of the toxicity of the item or foe. They also gain extra health from eating various things, and have eggs with a larger explosive radius than usual.
  • It's Easy, So It Sucks: The game was designed to bring in younger kids and get them interested in video games, so the game is substantially easier than usual.
  • It's Short, So It Sucks
  • Mondegreen: The song the Yoshis sing throughout the game, spoken in Simlish.
    • "Eat apples..."
    • "Be careful..."
    • "The asshole..."
  • Nightmare Fuel: The death screens, featuring a crying Yoshi being carried away into the depths of a dark castle... very dark for a game like this.
    • Blargg's Boiler features an invincible minion in the form of some sort of fire ghost that jumps in and out of the lava while letting out a VERY creepy moan.
      • There's also the Blarggs themselves, which are very Uncanny Valley, unlike the cartoonish ones in Yoshi's Island.
    • How about the Bone Dragons themselves? And the music the plays on P.2 - Cavern itself...
    • Level 4-2, "Jungle Puddle," is all good and fine for the first part. Then you get to the second part, with giant, invincible Blurps that eat you up, instantly causing you to lose that yoshi. Those things caused nightmares in many a gamer back in the day, especially the younger ones.
    • Level 4-3, Piranha Grove. An entire forest of Piranha Plants, with you in the middle.
    • The insta-death machinery in Mecha Castle.
      • The castle itself no matter what course you're on.
  • Tastes Like Diabetes
  • Tear Jerker: The ending, especially the final moments when the book closes and the last notes.
