Ace Ventura/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Better on DVD: Averted so far. There's never been a DVD release of either film containing all the great deleted scenes we get to see when these films are broadcast on television.
  • Crazy Awesome: Ace graduates to this in the second movie.
  • Critical Research Failure: In the sequel, Ace verbally mimics a gorilla to distract two poachers. One of them, upon hearing this (who is also supposedly a born-and-raised-in-the-wild type), surmises it must be a female silver back. Silverbacks are male. Some nature expert.
    • If we're being charitable, we could say that Gahjii knew that; he was only saying it for Ace's benefit to get the drop on him. They do come back and dart him a few seconds later.
    • The scene comes off more like that Ace changes the gorilla sounds significantly halfway through, so he first sounded like a silverback male, only to sound female moments later, requiring the hunters to reassess their first assumption. And then realize that the sounds couldn't have come from a real gorilla, after all.
  • Foe Yay: For someone that hates Ace Ventura with a passion, as well as Dan Marino, Einhorn has no qualms making out with either of them.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: You can't help but view Ace's freakout when he discovers that Einhorn is really Ray Finkle in a whole different way after seeing I Love You Phillip Morris.
  • Memetic Mutation: Allllllrighty then!
    • LIKE A GLOVE!
    • Loo-hoo-hoo-zer!
    • Reee-hee-hee-hee-hee-hee-heeally...
    • Who doesn't know at least one person in any group of nerds who will always announce "Do NOT go in there! WOOO!" after returning from the bathroom? Or when someone else returns from the bathroom. Or when the bathroom is mentioned. Or... yeah.
    • LACES OUT!
    • Also, Finkle/Einhorn became memetic enough to get its own World of Warcraft NPC.
    • "New England Clam Chowder." "Is that the Red, or the White?"
    • Briefly "Frankly, that's none of your damn business, and I'll thank you to stay out of my personal affairs." became a catch-all smart-alec answer to any question.
  • Never Live It Down: Finkle's missed field goal.
  • Squick: Ace's reaction to finding out that Einhorn is really Ray Finkle.
    • The scene in the second movie where his fake rhino has the air conditioner fail, forcing him to stick his head out and when it does people watching the Rhino are shocked to see a Rhino give birth to Ace. Did we mention that he was naked at the time?
      • That last scene actually gets cut in some broadcasts of the movie.
  • Tear Jerker: Don't tell me you can watch that first scene in the sequel when a raccoon Ace was determined to save breaks loose and falls.
    • It's funnier if you've seen Cliffhanger, which the scene parodies.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Ray Finkle. Really, all the poor guy did was miss a field goal. Did he really deserve to be branded a pariah by his entire hometown?
    • His hometown is full of sports-obsessed rednecks who vandalized Finkle's parents' house. This also drove his mother insane, to the point she constantly expects Ray to come home "any minute," and made Ray's father so paranoid he answers the door with a shotgun.
    • Not to mention the fact that Finkle was cut almost immediately after the "Kick Heard 'Round the World." So he never even got a chance to redeem himself, as he was a rookie at that point in time.
    • Two words: Bill Buckner.
      • Who was finally forgiven... 18 years later...
  • Weird Al Effect: After Ace Ventura was first released, some moviegoers believed the |Mission Impossible theme (which is used in the movie) originated from it.
