The second film in a trilogy of Direct to DVD CGI movies based on the Action Man toy franchise, Action Man: X-Missions - the Movie was a sequel to Action Man: Robot Atak released in 2005. It continues the story begun in Robot Atak, whilst also featuring the film debut of Professor Gangrene, a recurring antagonist in the Action Man comic book and TV series.

Followed by a third film, Action Man: Código Gangrena (Action Man: X-Missions - Code Gangrene) which was released only in Mexico in 2006.

Tropes used in Action Man: X-Missions - the Movie include:
  • The Archer: Redwolf
  • Broad Strokes: Despite the then-recent CGI TV series, the movies seem to follow the 90s animated series, albeit in broad strokes.
  • Freudian Trio: Action Force.
    • Redwolf is the Superego (calm and collected, though with some sense of humor)
    • Action Man is the Ego (as the quintessential action hero, sometimes he makes good planning, but other times he takes impulsive actions to keep the world safe)
    • Flynt is the Id (impulsive and fun-loving)
  • Fun Personified: Flynt.
  • Recycled Script: This movie reuses both the plot and some character models from the 2004 G.I. Joe movie G.I. Joe: Valor vs. Venom. Both are still good in their own way.
  • Sixth Ranger: Rebel in the X Missions movie.
