Proposed sub policy for the section on advertising called "Requested Links"

2
GethN7 (talkcontribs)

All The Tropes, by default, does not permit any form of external linking by request of offsite contact such as staff email to include any links for advertisers or for anyone else wanting us to improve their search engine optimization by using our SEO to piggyback off of by proxy.

However, if the requested links are relevant by a charity, historical society, or some other entity that is confirmably providing resources complementary to our mission, we will consider it, such as adding resources for support to our Useful Notes section on real world diseases or mental problems.

The following will apply to such requests:

  • They must be formal request to official staff email only. They must identify their purpose, organization, and otherwise be transparent about their motivations.
  • We are never under any obligation to respond or follow up on such requests. If we do, it will be at our discretion, such contacts will be discussed amongst staff if need be before inclusion, and this in no way makes staff beholden to future requests. We operate strictly on a case by case basis.
  • We will only consider links to nonprofits, genuine resources complementary to our existing content, or anything relevant to tropes, works, or Useful Notes about real world concepts such as diseases, mental conditions, disability, or other resources for writers and readers we deem relevant, etc.
  • All requests for obvious advertising or content deemed irrelevant, of an explicitly adult nature (pornography), requests to solely assist in the self promotion of others, or any other topic that falls entirely outside our mission will be rejected with prejudice.

All are invited to discuss this matter before this proposal goes into effect.

I gave this a read last night, and slept on it before rereading this morning. At that moment I don't see anything I would change, so a tentative vote "yes" on inclusion with our policies.
