Headbanger #1: Wha-? What's that sound!? |
A musical genre originating in the 1960s and 70s, influenced by Blues and Psychedelic Rock, emphasizing heavy, powerful sound with distorted guitars and (sometimes) extended solos.
Named after a line from "Born to Be Wild", Steppenwolf's most famous song - which is not an example of the style.

For an in-depth look, see Heavy Metal/Analysis and the Map of Metal.
Not to be confused with the fantasy comic book magazine of the same name or the animated film based on it.
